Review- Moonchild with Brittney Carter / Columbus, Ohio / March 17, 2026

Moonchild played Columbus. Moonchild are a multi-instrumentalist jazz and soul band from California.

I don’t know everything about Moonchild. Moonchild’s website only gives information which supports community and improving the world.

I know this woman’s name is Amber Navran. She sings, plays the flute and saxophone. I don’t know if jazz musicians usually aspire polite humility as an attribute. Amber seemed really pleased people liked jazz in Columbus, Ohio while singing at the Los Angeles’s band’s WAVES show…

Moonchild spent our evening gushing about Zora’s House.

Zora’s House’s founder participated in a qna before Moonchild performed. Zora’s House is a safe space in Columbus, Ohio for black women. LC Johnson discussed the importances of safe spaces in Columbus, Ohio because of Donald Trump’s negative culture.

Moonchild’s presence contained a calming energy. Moonchild played soul and jazz in a manner which seemed like Moonchild were singing, playing flute, saxophones and other instruments for people who were traumatized.I don’t intend implying Moonchild’s audience were Desert Storm veterans.

I’m just saying…I felt like I was watching caninine companions with the demeanor of positive natured counselors.

Chicago’s Brittney Carter opened and rapped with Moonchild.

I don’t know every Moonchild song.

I know Moonchild played Ride The Wave, Not Sorry, Ocean Deep, For Yourself, and The List.

The List elicited an ovation which brought about several encores from Moonchild’s audience of college-aged African-Americans.

Moonchild’s album Waves features Rapsody, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathaway, and Jill Scott.

Columbus…..cool ….cool…cool….cool….cool….cool….cool…
